<image:caption>I am a Research Assistant at the Teaching, Learning, and Development (TLD) Lab at NYU Abu Dhabi, where I handle physiological data collection, preprocessing and analysis, particularly heart rate variability (HRV), to explore early childhood development, emotional well-being, and caregiver-child interactions. In the TLD Lab, I work on collaborative interdisciplinary projects that investigate the impact of maternal adverse childhood experiences on mother-child interactions and biobehavioral co-regulation across different cultural contexts. My background in social psychology integrates archival research and multilevel modeling to explore well-being and migration decision-making. I am highly interested in SES and socio-economic policy impacts on wellbeing with a passion in understanding how adversity shapes emotional regulation and development. I aim to apply findings to create culturally responsive interventions for children and youth facing hardship.</image:caption>

In this role, I am involved in a research project that investigates how young children interact with digital technologies, which is an area I find both timely and deeply important in today’s rapidly evolving world. Over the past two years, I have gained extensive research experience in the UAE, contributing to both qualitative and quantitative studies focused on early childhood development. Through this work, I’ve had the opportunity to explore diverse aspects of how children grow, learn, and engage with their environments. I am committed to continuing research that not only advances academic understanding but also supports meaningful, culturally relevant improvements in child development practices.</image:caption>

I previously managed a pioneering initiative to develop and implement a parenting program for families in Abu Dhabi and led social impact and community outreach programs for NYUAD students. I have many years of project management experience across for-profit and non-profit sectors, primarily in Africa and the Arabic region. Prior to moving to Abu Dhabi, I worked with the BBC Media Action, the international development charity of the BBC. <image:title>Testimonials - Yared Getachew Undergraduate Student Researcher</image:title>
<image:caption>I've had the opportunity to work with Professor Antje for over three years now, both as a student and a research assistant in the Teaching, Learning, and Development Lab. Professor Antje was one of my top choices as a mentor for my senior year capstone project, as she is both an exceptional educator and mentor. Professor Antje has always created a dynamic and supportive environment that fosters both professional and personal development, both evident in her care and dedication to her students in every interaction. I witnessed this first hand when a family emergency necessitated my withdrawal from all classes mid-semester, including her Lab Early Childhood Education course and TLD Lab commitments. Despite the circumstances, Professor Antje consistently checked in, offering support and flexibility as I navigated the administrative process of my leave. Her empathy, understanding, and willingness to accommodate my situation made a challenging time significantly easier. Professor Antje's contagious enthusiasm and unique ability to inspire and motivate are commendable. Her commitment to fostering a collaborative community through initiatives like lab get-togethers and collaboration corners has been instrumental in creating a space for skills exchange within the lab. I'm grateful for her support and excited about the prospect of continuing to work under her mentorship to shape my career.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Testimonials - Aleksandrina Dimova Research Assistant</image:title>
<image:caption>When I first joined Dr. Antje’s lab as a student assistant in the spring of my first year, I could hardly imagine becoming a researcher right after graduation. Over three transformative years as a full-time lab member, I immersed myself in every facet of the research process: conceptualizing projects, collecting and analyzing data, and sharing findings through manuscripts and conference presentations. In addition to contributing to a meta-analysis, I also had the opportunity to work with surveys as well as both observational and physiological data to answer questions related to caregiver-child interactions, emotion co-regulation, and the effect of COVID-19 on Jordanian preschool children's mental health. Dr. Antje's mentorship was a beacon throughout my journey. In addition to helping me join and manage ongoing lab projects, she encouraged me to explore my independent research interests. Some highlights of my time in the lab include contributing to the setup of the university’s first developmental psychology lab, collaborating with researchers in the UAE, China, Jordan, and the US, and presenting at the SRCD Biennial meeting alongside over 6,500 attendees. The experience in Dr. Antje’s lab has shaped my professional identity and fostered a passion for research that I will continue to pursue. You can connect with me on LinkedIn here.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Testimonials - Shamsa Al Suwaidi Research Assistant</image:title>
<image:caption>Working on the First-time Emirati Fathers' project has been an incredibly enriching experience both professionally and personally. As an Emirati researcher, I am thrilled about contributing to the body of knowledge that directly impacts our community. This study has provided me with an invaluable opportunity to engage with diverse families and gain insights into their experiences and histories. One of the most rewarding aspects has been the interactions with the participants. Listening to their stories and understanding their perspectives has deepened my appreciation for the complexities of family dynamics in our society. This study has not only led to important findings but has also strengthened my research skills and enhanced my ability to adapt to changing circumstances. As a research assistant in the TLD lab, I was under the constant reassuring guidance of Professor Antje which led me to try new things I did not imagine myself doing, like attending and presenting a poster in a conference in Lisbon. Professor Antje was always looking out for me and I never felt alone in any sense during my time at the TLD lab. You can connect with me on LinkedIn here.</image:caption>

<image:title>Testimonials - Jay Hyung Lee Alumni - Capstone Student and Undergraduate Student Research Assistant</image:title>
<image:caption>After freshly declaring myself as a Psychology major in my sophomore year, I joined the Teaching, Learning, and Development Lab as a student assistant. I was tasked to clean and organize heart rate variability (HRV) data, which was collected for various emotion regulation research projects. Working on the various projects with lab members was influential in my academic journey. Not only did I acquire a degree of expertise on my research interests in HRV within developmental psychology, but I also gained insight into the intricacies involved in producing meaningful research. The sum of research experiences I had in the lab also shaped my senior capstone project, which examined differing HRV analysis methodologies to observe parent-child physiological synchrony. The lab provided me with a wealth of opportunities to learn and grow as a burgeoning academic, such as presenting my capstone at the International Scientific Society of Behavioral Development (ISSBD) in Lisbon, Portugal. I now take all that I have learned from the lab to the next chapter of my academic career, training in applied behavior analysis, working with children on the autism spectrum, and continuing to conduct research in the developmental field.</image:caption>
