Exploring Mother–Child Physiological Synchrony: Yared Presents at ISSBD 2026

Yared Getachew Kahsay represented the Teaching, Learning & Development Lab at the 2026 International Society for the Study of Behavioural Development (ISSBD) Conference in Incheon, South Korea, where he presented the Lab’s latest research, “Concurrent and Time-Lagged Mother–Child Physiological Synchrony Among Urban Syrian Refugees in Jordan.”

The study explores how mother–child physiological synchrony changes across different contexts and examines the role of individual risk factors in shaping these dynamic patterns of co-regulation among families living in adversity.

The conference brought together researchers from around the world for several days of presentations, discussions, and knowledge exchange. Alongside a full programme of sessions and research presentations, the event created opportunities for meaningful conversations, new perspectives, and potential future collaborations.

A particular highlight was connecting with scholars working across diverse research contexts, including researchers from across Africa, and exchanging ideas about studying unique and often underrepresented populations. These conversations underscored the value of learning across disciplines, cultures, and lived experiences.

Presenting the research before publication also provided an important opportunity to receive thoughtful feedback that will help strengthen the study as it continues to develop.

The TLD Lab returns from ISSBD 2026 with new ideas, stronger research connections, and renewed motivation for the work ahead.
