Learning About Emotions, Experiences, and Parenting (LEEP)
Project Overview
In this project, we aim to understand how children navigate their emotions and how parents can support them in regulating these emotions. Emotions play a crucial role in our everyday lives, from how we express them to how we manage them. Emotional development begins early and is shaped by interactions with primary caregivers. Our goal is to explore how the co-regulation of emotions between children and their caregivers can help identify the parental behaviors that foster healthy emotional development.
While much of the research on emotion regulation has involved samples from Western and East Asian countries, little is known about these processes in children from Arab countries. To bridge this gap, we conducted a study with mother-child pairs from Arab cultural backgrounds, using a mixed-method approach that included surveys, interviews, behavioral observations, and physiological measures. The findings from this research will offer insights into how families in the region support young children’s emotional development and may guide future policies and programs aimed at fostering emotional well-being.
