Our lab’s TECH project at NYU Abu Dhabi has been shortlisted for the THE Awards Arab World 2026 in the category Research Project of the Year: Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences.
One component of the project, Unpacking the Digital Lives of Young Children in the UAE, explores how children under eight engage with digital technology and how parental presence can shape these interactions. In our study of 130 children in Abu Dhabi, we found that 74.4% shifted their behavioural profiles when a parent joined the interaction, often moving towards more focused and stable digital play.
This recognition highlights the importance of understanding not just how much time children spend on screens, but also the quality of their digital experiences.
